During the day, I coordinate rush orders at a packaging and print company. In four years, I've handled 200+ expedited jobs, including same-day turnarounds for clients who were hours from a trade show or a critical event. Whether the question is what is E6000 glue or can E6000 be used on metal, my answer depends on substrate, cure time, and how much load the joint has to carry. I've seen E6000 fix things hours before they needed to ship — and I've seen it fail when someone ignored the cure time or glued the wrong plastic. These are the questions I get asked most, plus the ones people should be asking.
What Is E6000 Glue?
E6000 is a solvent-based, industrial-strength adhesive made by Eclectic Products. It comes in a thick, clear paste that stays flexible after curing. If you've ever searched for Colle E6000 on a French-language site, it's the same formula, same tube. It's one of those go-to glues because it bonds metal, wood, glass, ceramic, fiberglass, leather, and most rigid plastics. That broad range is why it ends up in so many repair kits. But broad doesn't mean universal. The next questions cover both what it does well and where it fails.
Can E6000 Be Used on Metal?
Yes. Metal is one of E6000's better surfaces. In March 2024, a client called 36 hours before a trade show with a broken aluminum display bracket. Normal replacement time was six days. We degreased the metal with acetone, roughed the inside face with sandpaper, applied a thin layer of E6000, and clamped it for 12 hours. The bracket held through the entire show. Or rather, it held until the client tried to pry it apart without loosening the mounting screws. For a permanent structural load, I'd still choose welding or mechanical fasteners. But for display fixtures, signs, nameplates, tool handles, and other non-stress attachments, E6000 is the answer I keep in my back pocket. Use it sparingly, because the solvent can soften thin sheet metal paint if you overdo it.
What Surfaces Should You Avoid With E6000?
Here's the question people don't think to ask. E6000 does not stick well to polypropylene, polyethylene, Teflon (PTFE), or silicone. It also struggles with soft rubber and flexible vinyl. I learned the hard way when I was starting out: I assumed for plastic meant all plastics. Then a polyethylene cap came off a client's product within two days. The label said plastic because it was a plastic material, but I didn't check the recycling code before recommending glue. Now I always say: if the part bends easily and doesn't crack when you flex it, it's probably polypropylene or polyethylene. Treat those as a no-go unless the package specifically says the adhesive works on them. On flexible foam boards, too much E6000 can eat through the surface, so test on a scrap piece first.
How Long Does E6000 Take to Dry and Cure?
Drying and curing are not the same thing. E6000 skins over in about 10 minutes and sets solid enough to handle in 24 hours, but full cure takes 48 to 72 hours. The label says 24 hours. I've found it's closer to 72 for load-bearing joints and 48 for flat decorative repairs. Last quarter, I told a client a cabinet pull would be ready in two hours. It was closer to five, because we clamped it and then let it sit overnight. If you move the piece too early, you weaken the bond permanently. If you're in a rush — and I say this carefully because rushing is what I get paid to manage — use clamps, not just pressure.
Can I Use E6000 to Repair a DeLonghi Magnifica XS Plastic Part?
If you have the DeLonghi Magnifica XS manual open because a housing tab snapped, E6000 can bond ABS, which is what most coffee machine housings use. The bad news: for a load-bearing tab that holds a side panel in place, glue alone probably won't last. The tab takes more force than cured E6000 can reliably transfer. For clients who need the machine running while a replacement part ships, I do three steps: clean the crack with isopropyl alcohol, clamp it, let E6000 cure for a full 72 hours, and add a small sheet-metal brace if the crack is near a screw. If the crack is only cosmetic, E6000 is fine. If it's under spring tension or handles weight, order the part.
How Big Is an A2 Poster?
A2 is 420 mm by 594 mm. In inches, that's 16.5 by 23.4. It's about four times larger than an A4, or half an A1. If you're sending a file for an A2 poster, the safe resolution is 300 DPI at final size: roughly 4961 by 7016 pixels. If your image is lower res, the print will look soft up close. At viewing distances of five feet or more, 150 DPI is often acceptable, but I'd still send 300 DPI if you can. Last year we printed an A2 poster for a conference booth from a 2500-pixel-wide file. It looked fine from across the room, but terrible at arm's length. The client's alternative was not having the poster at all, so we went with it. If you have the file size, 300 DPI is the safest target.
What Should a Business Thanksgiving Card Include?
A business Thanksgiving card is a thank-you note, not a newsletter. Most of our customers order a 5 x 7 card on 80 lb cover stock (216 gsm), printed full color, with the company logo and a short note such as Thank you for being part of our year. If the card is all logo and no message, it's a business card with a comma after the year. Brand color matters: if the logo is Pantone-specific, ask the printer to keep it within Delta E of 2 or less from that spec. If you're adding ribbon or a fabric accent, E6000 is tempting — but on a folded card, solvent glue can warp the paper around the glue line. Use a glue runner or double-sided tape for flat paper. Save E6000 for something shaped or dimensional. And small orders: a 25-card run deserves the same prepress check as a 5,000-card run. Today's 25-card client is often next year's 2,500-card client.
